On Mother's Day of 2004 the Dynos were fortunate enough to share the stage with the world famous Persuasions. This short clip documents one of the greatest contrasts in the world of a cappella: At the time, the co-ed group was in its 9th year since its inception in 1995. Historically the Dynos had been comprised of predominantly (if not 100%) white singers. The Persuasions, on the other hand, formed in 1962 and hit the charts at the end of the decade with great support from Frank Zappa. The five member 100% black group has released albums on Capitol, A&M, and Elektra.
On this morning at Saratoga's Performing Arts Center the two worlds collided at the end of the double billed show. This final number was entirely improvised and our soloist... well let's just say that we couldn't have elected anyone whiter - of course he sounds terrific, but I know I'll never hear the end of it from him if he ever finds out this is on YouTube. Enjoy.
