Ah, Manchester Town Hall. I've spent several amusing election nights there! Nice place; doesn't look much like the Palace of Westminster, though.

Con'd: Ian Richardson played this role to perfection because of his years of experience and classical training. And the gift of speach his was born with. I'm still amazed watching him act this role. The asides, all of it. I'm sorry I never saw anything else he did all those years before I was born.

Lillian Gish was interviewed by Dick Cavet years ago and asked of Faye Donaways performance in Mommy Dearest. She said,"F.D. Diddnt act like Joan Crawford, Faye Donaway CHANNELED Joan Crawford. I.R. Had to wAit his whole life to play this glorious part.

As an American I identify with old Hollywood. The wonderful series was like an old movie. It was captivating. The backrounds filled with antiques and beautiful interiors. I.R's clothes seemed impecable. The music, the lighting, this Actor. I saw it all as modern Shakespeare. And there was high camp too which is always fun. R.I.P.

Good old Urquhart, always polite, always a smile and a pat on the back...right before he sticks a knife in it.

All those Daimlers make it look like a big funeral procession. Nice cars but I don't think politicians have ridden in them for decades. In fact did they ever? Wasn't it just the Royals who used them, while ministers used Rovers and Jags?

Absolutely stunning series and a legendary theme tune. The best show ever to come from the BBC IMO.
