When country neophytes turn on the radio and here generic Nashville dreck or "beach country," it's no wonder they're turned off. Now that I think about it, Ween's gonzo country album probably converts more fence-sitters than the so-called real stuff. :p

People who post here that they hate country music are only proudly displaying their ignorance of the music and its history. Just like anything else, it requires some searching and digging for the good stuff. It's a HUGE genre that runs much deeper than that Nashville drek you hear on the radio.

Also, if call yourself a musician or music lover, and then claim to "hate" any kind of music, please do the world a favor and give your instrument and equipment to a real musician. Thanks.

check out truck stop darlin, you'd appreciate them. Townes Van Zant is the king....period. Have you seen "Heart worn hi-way"? The gourds do an awesome cover of pancho and lefty. The pull-tab boys were awesome, uncle tupelo, wilco all obvious picks. you should also check out a guy named pete krebs, his solo stuff with and without Gossamer Wings is simply amazing! He's gotten into a kind of country swing thing as of late though. If you can, look up pete krebs " take me away".....you wont regret it

Stuff like Townes Van Zandt, Willie, Steve Earle and more recent artists like Sparklehorse, Howe Gelb , Greg Brown,Calexico and tons of others show that country music is alive and well,and doesn't suck.
