  • was this concert in the states? or elsewhere? nice to hear from earlier than the 1979 one.. not that I do not like the 79 one, but it is always good to hear different versions, since page was always different in his playing. Thanks for posting!

  • This is from the 1977 US tour. I believe this particular concert was in Cleveland, OH.

  • wow

  • What more is there to say ? :)

  • great bass line. I'm sure it influenced bands like Maiden and others!

  • Indeed. One critic even remarked once that Iron Maiden's whole ouevre is totally based on this song. Though that (rather humorous, I think) statement is arguably a bit exaggerated, there is no doubt that 'Achilles Last Stand' must have had a huge influence on fellow musicians, especially in the heavy metal genre.

Just listen to Heart's 'Barracuda' for instance.

  • Page and Bonzo were working on a heavier album in early 80 and they were not happy with the synthesized feel of In Through The Outdoor. Page wanted something heavier and that would have been the tone of their next album. band would have stayed together if Bonzo had lived because plant had a loyalty to him and Bonzo was a steadfast loyal guy to Page. Robert was getting his way by 1980 with shorter tours and less improvisation.

  • @hudamemansana :) They ALL Good!!

  • @ZoSoRecords what?! The August 8th concert in 1979 was beast! Especially Achilles Last Stand! :O

  • Is an overvre the same as a reportiore?

  • @madrox1994 True. I felt Jimmy would have died from drinking. But if you check my comment above, Jimmy was trying to clean his act up a bit towards the end of the bands life. He was working at it, but when Bonham died, and the band he crafted died, it was game over. He relapsed, and went on a binge right after for awhile. Hence his ever so slender (anorexic) look in 1981. He literally weighed nothing at the time. But, the band could have either A) succeeded. or B) someone died.

  • @LedWilde That is why Jimmy has said that there is lots and lots of material the public still doesn't know about that they had worked on going into 1980. In an interview with him (cannot remember it but will find it) Jimmy clearly states that "The band had another album in the works, going back to their roots and starting fresh. A more "sober" approach to their music." And when asked if their is material we do not know about, he answered: "Oh tons. We were always working and writing."

  • @LordGandor3 For sure. Judas was a definite role player. I cannot believe I forgot them! XD. But yeah I definitely agree with Judas.

  • @JustinPierce1226

If they carried on with bonham dead, it would've just been a 70's band playing synthesizer infused rockabilly and blues. They would have made another album, maybe with more punk like songs such as wearing and tearing, but most of it would be like hotdog, darlene, ozone baby and caroulselambra. That was really the direction they were headed. Or if bonham hadn't died and they carried on, it would only have been a matter of time before Jimmy overdosed or the band split upanyway

  • The bass line is INSANE,his movement in this song is original.God bless led zepp

  • Sublime guitar solo around 3.30 onwards
