Ike approaching the Sol Rio de Luna y Mares (Holguin, Cuba) around 10:30 am on Sept. 7th, 2008. The ocean is on the right side, which at this point you can no longer see. This rainfall was brief and the hurricane reached the island later that afternoon.

  • hi i left on wednesday after ike hit and all the sunbeds and plastic tables and chairs had been put in the pool for safety before ike hit so its not the actual hurricane.

  • And that's what I said... this was at 10:30 am before the hurricane arrived. But there was a brief storm which was caused by Ike.

  • I don't know what it's like there right now but I do believe that Ike has passed the province of Holguin. This footage, however, doesn't represent the hurricane at its worse since this was shot in the morning before it made it's way to the city.

I imagine all the tourists are taken care of. All the staff at the resorts were working very hard at getting it ready for the hurricane and protecting the people. My friends and I were lucky enough to leave Cuba right as the storm hit in the afternoon.

  • i went to the hotel bg in 2009 september and now im going bak 2010 july and i heard there was supposed to be alot of hurrricane activity

  • My friend was there with her husband and another couple.

They are Portuguese but they live in Toronto,Canada.

They are going back there this year.

  • I was only there for two weeks and it was a package deal. I got to learn very little about the poitical side. My creditation was aimed more towards the staff and the people of cuba

  • The Cuban government only responded quickly to tourists like you. Cubans were injured & starving & when Spain donated food, the government horded the food & SOLD it to the people ($4 US dollars for one egg!). Who would do such a crime? Castro's government. I hope the embargo is lifted, but that's not going to fix Cuba. Getting rid of dictators is what will fix Cuba. My family in Oriente suffered a great deal and didn't receive any help from the government or authorities. They're all pigs!!!

  • well...I also see the embargo doesn't work, but it is not fair to call "proffesional and humbling" the authorities' efforts to restore the damage because after the storm had hit peaople didn't have what to eat and they had tons of cow meat in Santiago, what did they do? - they buried those tons so that their people couldn't eat them...the "attention" is the one the Cuban govn't wants to show off to the world but not to its people...

  • flatlined69: Thanks for your comment, the whole world recognizes the great job from Cuban authorities, something to be proud of. I´m glad you are ok, I guess it was a terrible experience for you. We hope someday The US understands the economical embargo against Cuba is useless and stupid, the world rejects such thing and only shows the frustration, failure, and anger from the US international policy, in the other hand, Cuba has gained respect and international recognition.

  • well said the response from the authroites was amazing. Also the attitude and proffesional service we contnued to recieve before during and after this storm is humbling. I was staying in cayo coco when this happened . If only the US would lift the embargo
