February 5, 2010, HUNDE Winterthur, Switzerland. 7. International Dogdancing Tournament. Open Class. Vela and Buzz Cecil. The music of from the opera The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. I won't go into the REAL plot of the opera, but suffice it to say, it's a little different than what we're doing here. I took excerpts from 3 arias and built our version:
1) Papageno Aria: Papageno is a bird catcher and Papagena is his trusty dog, who "helps" him catch his birds.
2) Ein Mädchen oder ein Weibchen (A Girlfriend or a Wife): Papageno muses how he would like either a girl friend or a wife. Then it hits him. He DOES have this Magic Flute that has special powers. He COULD use it to change his trusty dog into a woman!
3) Papagena & Papageno Aria: Well, he let's the magic cloth and the Magic Flute do their thing, but it doesn't quite turn out the way he planned. But in the end, all's well that ends well.
Thanks to Claudia Moser (as usual) for all her help as my trainer and adviser, especially slightly re-doing the ending. And thanks to Vela, who taught me not to take it sooooo seriously.

  • Oh what fun! I love that there is a story.

  • @RelentlesslyHuge - Thanks - of course, when I can't dance (which I can't) I've resigned to telling a story. ;-)

  • Great job!! Very funny, I agree with everyone else about the drinking but I really loved the magic hiccup!!! You make a great dog guy!!

I too can't dance and will be 'telling' a story when we get our routine done!

  • @CelticCur Don't forget to let us know. I'm sure it'll be great!

  • Wonderful performance! I like it very much. It's very different from the freestyle routine we see in US.

  • @sachikoeubanks - it' not even a common style of Choreo here. I simply have the problem that I can't dance, so look for themes to which I can tell a story using dog tricks. And I like to make them a little self-ironic, rather poking fun at me. And I don't take part in the competition classes, only the FUN classes. ;-))
