Goot WS-11 Antistatic Wrist StrapElectrostatic discharge is one of the main causes of failures of electronic devices. The first protection measure against static electricity when working with electronic components, boards and devices is using an antistatic wrist strap, and we will review the WS-11 wrist strap produced under the Goot brand as an example. It consists of a strap made of high-quality durable semiconducting fabric and the grounding system which is a contact wire where one end is connected to the wrist strap loop through a reliable terminal connection, and the other end is directly connected to the grounding conductor via a crocodile clip or in conjunction with an antistatic mat through a special connector. Highly dense conductive fabric is woven into the strap ensuring the skin contact even under small pressure that can be controlled by changing the strap length. It also should be noted that the wrist strap has a 1 megaohm ballast resistor embedded into the contact clasp, and it is used to provide safety if the ground bus catches electric current in an emergency. Many people do not like to work with an antistatic wrist strap finding it a bit uncomfortable but as the experience of production and repair of electronic equipment shows, the antistatic equipment of the workbench should be accepted as a norm. Don't forget to connect the wrist strap to the grounded conductor as simply wearing this accessory doesn't provide antistatic protection.
