@biggesttvfan he was the contractor who worked on the scullys house after the fire. She then bumped into him again after he found out he had cancer and she decided to look after him through it as he had no family and few friends.

it isn't exactly a spoiler, they are the one CONSTANT pairing on this t.v show that have broken up 500 times and gotten back together, whether I knew by an article or not, if there is one thing to know about Mr and Mrs Kennedy it is that those two ALWAYS end up going back to each other, its like some weird, twisted thrill the writers get off on. If Karl and Susan are looking too much like a happy couple they break them up over something just so they end up finding a way back to each other.
