Within weeks of 2001 (The Movie) hitting the streets the AI community were predicting that HAL9000 would be a reality within 30 years. Well, here we are 40 years later and HAL9000 still appears to be 30 years away. How come? They completely underestimated the sophistication of the processes involved beyond sheer processing power, memory and a priori knowledge.

Even today the AI industry struggles with need for context and cognition, and continues to grind away employing ever more processing power, memory and software. But that won't cut it! In this session we highlight and quantify the importance of sensors and actuators as being the key elements in all forms of intelligence and thier overriding importance for all forms of life.
