This is an 18" Revell-Monogram R.M.S. Titanic kit, built with twelve "watertight" compartments separated by plastic bulkheads similar in height to those on the actual Titanic. The vessel is weighted to float at the proper waterline, and the starboard bow has been holed at the location of the iceberg impact on the historic vessel.

This model is missing the propellers, rudder, and mainmast -- all were damaged either during sinkings or in storage. It also needs some work to maintain a proper "hang time" at the vertical position during the final plunge. Otherwise, the sinking is quite realistic, with the final plunge beginning just after the bridge goes under.

This shot is from a bow-on perspective.

  • Very helpful to give a sense of how the speed of the sinking progressed at an increasing rate, but... the double-bottom hull didn't have bulkheads, so the water burst up from the floors in the latter compartments. Unlike what's believed, the ship may have been doomed from the moment the bottom hull was pierced.

  • @matt605 Can't tell you how nice it is to get a thoughtful comment. Thank you! If you check out our channel page, you can see our larger model sinking in a similar manner. The double-bottom theories are always around, aren't they?

  • do you have to swim to the bottom of the marina? haha
