A documentary chronicling LCD Soundsystem's farewell show at Madison Square Garden last April will screen at next year's Sundance Film Festival, as Pitchfork points out. Titled SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS (the caps are intentional), the film was directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, and chronicles "LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy over a crucial 48-hour period, from the day of their final gig at Madison Square Garden to the morning after, the official end of one of the best live bands in the world," according to a description on the festival's website. According to ArcadeFireTube, Arcade Fire's Win Butler inspired the title.

At the moment, it's unclear whether the documentary is the same thing as the concert film previously mentioned by Murphy. In a Facebook entry posted on October 26th, Murphy wrote: "oh--and quick thing on last show film... it's taking a long time to edit. sorry. edit is happening in london, so it's a lot of flying. takes a long time, and then it has to be graded (didn't know any of this technical stuff before), distributed, etc. taking longer than i expected, so i'm sorry. it's coming early next year."

We've reached out to the band's representation for clarification and will let you know once we hear back.

Along with the documentary, Murphy has a cameo in another film set to screen at Sundance. According to Pitchfork, Murphy will play a Brooklyn hipster in a Rick Alberson-directed film called The Comedy. The film stars Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! and also features Okkervil River's Will Sheff, Richard Swift, and Gregg Turkington (aka Neil Hamburger).

So far, my greatest regret in life is not going and seeing this concert.

I'm embarrassed to admit how many times I've watched it for that reason. Chills every time- even out of context with the rest of the movie (which is excellent itself.) There's something broadly relatable about the circumstances- the end of an era in peoples lives, goodbyes, uncertainty, loss. And, of course, "All My Friends" is the best song of the 2000's. No song captures the romantic, early 30's hopelessness of realizing for the first time that you're suddenly getting old and will someday die.

Got to see them live twice here in Australia. Awesome live. Devastated when he announced the ending of LCD Soundsystem. Sooo looking forward to this.
