"Magistrates & Saints" was the third single by the insane picnic released in 1986. This is the album version from "this is the winter darkness".

the insane picnic comprised of Barry Lamb (Vocals, keyboards, guitar, bass), Peter Ashby (Guitar, keyboards, bass, drums) & Owen Turley (Drums, bass, guitar)

the insane picnic rode on the crest of the new wave providing a musical backdrop to the discontent of Thatcher's Britain in the early to mid 80's. Stark poetic lyrics, razor sharp guitars and hypnotic programmed drums typical of the time.

LYRICS (These are the official lyrics, there are some slight variations in this version)

Tragic marble girl
Amethyst woman from a talisman takle
My own woman
She's so wicked, she makes me feel alright

The mansion stands in the middle of the lake
...the banned play
The head of the household is a fake
He came from the swamp with the silver snake

The lake must dry
...and surely die
...to our delight
In the soft moonlight

The lake is full of England's blood
The murderer is masked by a grey hood
He is tired of evil
...and wants to be good

Magistrates and Saints ha ha ha ha ha

The silver snake is resting on top of the courthouse
He's gonna get you
He's gonna wrap himself around you
...and he's gonna lick you and bite you
...and softly touch you

The magistrate will kill the snake
The magistrate sings a theme to a dance school
...with fireworks and the world wars

The blood of the poet and the opium man
Parade in wartime
They are passionate and youthful
...and welcome poetry with sunrise

In the elegance of the clergy maze
The silence of darkness
Is the desolate and resolute sound of their hearts

Magistrates and saints are demanding

Tragic marble girl
Amethyst woman from a talisman tale
My Venus woman
She's so wicked she makes me feel alright

I have seen her in her room
...by the moon
Impetuous and wild
Hiding her smile

I have seen her so many times
...walking through the street
Looking for me
I have seen her
... in this fire
