Historic World Title Match from The Baltimore Civic Center. April 30, 1977. Heavyweight Champion: Bruno Sammartino VS Challenger: Superstar Billy Graham
if only vince jr.had the company he would have made the superstar the "BIGGEST CASH COW EVER"if only,as we always say in r day 2 day life if only,vince even told billy 2 his face he said "U KNOW SUPERSTAR THE ONLY PROBLEM YOU'VE HAD IN UR CAREER IS U WERE WAY A HEAD OF UR TIME"20 years too soon.........................
@at1212b This has nothing to do with Cena. In fact, I don't even watch anymore. But this is SO dry. I grew up watching Lawler vs Bockwinkel, Sting vs. Muta, Flair vs Steamboat, DiBiase vs Reed, Dusty vs Tully, you know, THE GOOD STUFF. Matches that had action. This was a plodding MESS. I've see better mid-card action in the UWF, WCCW, CWA/USWA, and the old NWA. Wahoo McDaniel and Manny Fernandez had WAY better bouts than this. And they weren't main eventers.
hahahah, the joke is on you, and that is, this match is far more memorable and significant than any Cena match or title change today, regardless of how many goofy flips, bumps, spots, action there is or will do.
This was a different era. Even in the NWA, while you may have seen better chain-wrestling, you would never witness any match with the kind of pace that was established in the 80s. And likewise what made a "good" match changed in the 90s. The styles always evolve.
You guys are judging this match for not being something it was never meant to be. The WWWF was not known for the best matches in the country. It was built around babyface superstar Champions defending against tons of challengers and was also a big man territory. This match had those elements. Also, keep in mind Bruno was worn out and getting older by this time. They put the title on Graham only to trainsition it to Backlund (new babyface Champ), even though Billy did huge business.

@UCKABAH
And Sr. was a big fan of Backland even though he really wasn't a big draw or that popular.

Historic, but boring.

lol you guys are idiots. This was wrestling psychology at its finest. Two men telling a story.
Regardless, this match was historic. It was the last time Sammartino would ever be champion. A fitting end for a great champion.
