  • I can't believe the only female rock icon she could think of was Chrissie Hynde (who is a great choice.). However, there are so many more. Just off the top of my head I would have mentioned the following: Ann & Nancy Wilson of Heart, Pat Benatar, Grace Slick (Jefferson Starship & Airplane), Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Janis Joplin, Chrissy Hynde, Patti Smyth, & even Dale Krantz and I know that I'm leaving off several others.

  • Juliana forget to mention Patti Smith, who really was the first female to be fully in charge of a rock band. Patti paved the way Juliana, Chrissie Hynde and a legion of female guitar players who came after her.

  • @Tizirk Carrie Brownstein is my favorite guitarist (not just female guitarist) of the last 20 years or so, and she will be in a new band, Wild Flag that it just starting to tour.... and neither Wilco nor Radiohead was in Sleater-Kinney's league as a live band, not even close - and I like both of those bands.

  • @Tizirk Carrie Brownstein is my favorite guitarist (not just female guitarist) of the last 20 years or so, and she will be in a new band, Wild Flag that it just starting to tour.... and neither Wilco nor Radiohead was in Sleater-Kinney's lkeague as a live band, not even close - and I like both of those bands.

  • There probably aren't any more 'heroes' to begin with because the whole semi-god principle is something that belongs in the past, unless you're into shows like "Idols" and those have dummyfied the whole thing. Good female guitarrists or even female musicians with great ideas? Diamanda Galás Nina Hagen Chrissie Hynde Kim Gordon P.J. Harvey Brenda Kahn Juliana Hatfield Fiona Apple Gail Anne Dorsey Peaches
  • Seriously? No love for Marnie Stern?

  • Carrie Brownstein! Excuse 17 and Sleater-Kinney (who sadly are not around anymore, so after Sonic Youth, Wilco and Radiohead...who's the best band in the world? i digress) hell! Carrie Brownstein...litany: Carrie Brownstein!

  • @timjmoran

whatever. this isn't the good old days where you could tell a woman what to do like "make me a sandwich". nobody is stopping them from playing incredible guitar but themselves. The chicks from Kittie play a mean, mean, guitar

  • Geez,.. REV TEST.. that sure us a pretty narrow-minded assessment of the issue.. do ya REALLY think it call be explained away by mere homones? Maybe women just aren't given permission to play in that style; or maybe it's just so Totally dominated by , uh, MEN... this just seems too simplistic to me.
