Crossing the Greek Turkish Border near Ipsala, Turkey - including dealing with the suspicious Greek border officials who were concerned about my camera. The total time spent to cross this border was eventually about 2 hours with delays on both the Greek and Turkish sides. A fuller description is in my blog at http://borderhunting.blogspot.com/2008/11/balkans-3-greece-to-turkey.html. A nice video of much of the part of this crossing that I missed filming is at http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJRcsoMWhzo

Because of some rude comments that have been posted I have set this video to have comments moderated. Please post all comments in English so I can understand them. Comments in other languages will just have to be deleted I'm afraid - sorry.

  • Were you travelling on a British or Canadian passport? If it was a British one, I am absolutely amazed that the Greek border official gave you so much grief on your way out of the EU. I don't see how it mattered what you filmed anyway unless they have something to hide, the way the Chinese do in Tibet and other places. It's put me off going to Turkwy in case the same happened to me. Did you really have to show him footage from your camera?

  • @TheEurozhongguo I had entered Schengen on the Canadian passport so had to leave on that one too. He scanned lots of footage from the camera (and found nothing of concern!!)

  • So tell me how did Turks treaded you?

  • @TurkeylovesGreece no particular issues except that no-one at all spoke English so finding the right office to get the visa stamp was a challenge

  • you can all see the high level of education that the Greek border officers have. They speak a lot of languages , they are polite and most of all they can detect an suspicious invader. Of course the only think they care about is their salary. Of course they can let you pass with no delay if you are a little generous. Ashamed for the citizens of my country...

  • that's what happens when u're not an E.U citizen...

  • I want to cross the border 1day too,If Im visting Turkey from Germany

    Greetings to Turkey and Greece

  • @alxxz Eh, that's not that uncommon. You'd be amazed how many "English" people have dual nationality with the old British colonies. I'm one of them.

  • I was in Turkey 2 years, 1957-59, flew on no passport, flew out, no passport...just USAF special orders in those days...

  • I'm a student in greek school and I'ma terrible student and evan i know muc much better english then this idiot :P

"I want to sell what you have in the camera!"

  • @borderhunting As suspected. At that time they arrested two Turkish spies in Evros to photograph Greek miliary camp. For this reason everyone in the border are on alert for any foreigner crossing the border. And especially from Greece to Turkey.
