Are the SP and NP whistles both mounted on the locomotive; or does the crew have to climb up and change them? Also, there was another whistles used on the 4449 years ago that I heard was stolen. Was it the original SP whistle for this engine?

I like the NP 3-Chime more than the SP 3-Chime. It has a deeper tone which really gives the NP 3-Chime the advantage over the SP 3-Chime, especially for a locomotive of this size. The 4449 deserves a bassy whistle.

On the 3rd Scene it used the NP 3-Chime because the SP 3-Chime was only used as a spare, the new SP 3-Chime was used on the 1st day of the trip, but on the way back it used the old NP 3-Chime. The whistle on the 3rd Scene was the SP 4449's old NP 3-Chime because it sounded like it.

Ya, you can tell which day it was filmed by the whistle, the whistle was a little raspy 2nd day, it was the 1st time we've had the new whistle on the road

Nice shots. I was in the 49's cab in the 3rd shot.

Great video....alot of things affect the sound...heat, humidity and so on but that 3rd seen she sounded just sick.

OK, it's time to go see this thing next time its out (not holiday express XP), off to DMV I go

Whenever the new whistle squeals, I'm reminded of Cotton Belt 819's original whistle - very similar in design and it squealed after too much use... 819's new whistle is a replica, made to the design of the original.
Love that new whistle

@trainboy94 sounds like it still has issues in scene #3 (1:15)
