The UPMC Mercy Burn Center team held a press conference to highlight the dangers of fireworks. Doctors representing burn services, plastic surgery and rehabilitation urged the public to leave the fireworks to the professionals.

A former patient who was severely injured when she lit what she thought was a red, white and blue candle that turned out to be a firework equivalent of a quarter-stick of dynamite shared the story of her ordeal and also encouraged others to stay away from fireworks.
