"taker her batteries out. WOULD YOU PLEASE!" - love mary lou <3

How did Ekaterina get a 10 on beam when she hopped on dismount? Mary Lou also had a small step on her second vault. I think they just threw out 10's in those days.

This is an updated version of the interview that I remember. The competition footage and the voice over is exactly the same, but it was Mary Lou being interviewed in the 1990's. About her knee surgery recovery, the doctor said, "No way Mary Lou. Just wait until the next Olympics." Mary Lou, "Talk about frustration. I'm in the best shape of my life and I'm learning to walk again."

@cj222100- i think Vault was considered her strongest and beam her weakest

I want to say to those who don't know, that those who think Mary Lou only won because the USSR wasn't there. ARE WRONG. Mary Lou had already beaten the best the USSR gymnasts in international competitions prior to the olympics. Mary Lou was the best at both the vault and the floor at the time no gymnast was her equal in those events. Szabo was the world champion. Retton won because she did a great beam routine, that was her weakest event. So now, lets not hear any more along this line.

What was considered to be Mary Lou's strongest event, and her least strongest?

Oh...a glimpse of Simona Pauca at 0:31 ! I had a huge crush on her during the 1984 games. I was 13 and full of hormones. LOL

I gotta say, I never thought I'd love a southern baptist, fundamentalist conservative (as a gay guy), but Mary Lou was so damn likable, joyous and wonderfully talented that, I, like everyone else, fell instantly in love with her. It was impossible not to get swept away by her care free charm. Thanks for the upload!!!

@purplegirl353 That is Vera Caslavska (from the former Czechoslovakia). She won the All Around competition at the 1964 and 1968 Olympic Games.
