Yer both right, actually.
"Animals were trained to sit still near the scanners and we also inserted cameras into the womb via the elephant's rectum-But it has been worth it. It one sequence we follow an elephant developing. When it is finally born, there is not a dry eye in the house."-Jeremy Dear of Pioneer Productions, who made the film.

Blimey, have just spent the last half hour watching about babies in the womb, multiples in the womb, dogs, dolphins and now elephants! This is all pretty amazing stuff - I can't believe we can know what's going on inside in such detail now. Welcome to the future!
no, a camera is used through a tiny needle to look at it inside. They do ultra sounds through a "dildo" shaped ultrasound thing, but you can't see through the water bag without going through with the tiny needle, directly into the uterus on the stomach part.

The film was made using 4D scanning ultrasound technology. Never once was there any intrusion with camera equipment. The scans are taken and analysed and are painstakingly replicated using animal models. The footage is then replayed using the models in realtime.

by using 3D and 4D imagery and scanning techniques model makers were able to make detailed scale models of the golden retriever, dolphin and asian elephant. This process allowed for lighting and camera initiatives and prevented camera intrusion on the animals. The models were made by taking the scanned images of the foetuses and then translating them into models.
