Online Marketer and Top Earner films an expert Abalone fisherman as he goes through the proper steps of cleaning an abalone, to preparing it for cooking to actually putting it on a dinner plate. If you have never seen someone clean an abalone, you must watch this informative video.

Greg McMahon was able to shoot this video during an annual camping trip along the Northern California Coast, Mendocina. The weather was exceptional, and the abalone, as always were delicious.

June is generally the best time to find abalone, as they cling to the bottom of the ocean floor on rocks and such. In June, the tides are very low, so a person can get to the abalone much easier.

I always look forward to my annual camping trip every June. Although the actual dates may very due to tides, I never have to worry about missing the trip as I tend to "Work around my Lifestyle". No boss to ask for time off, no meetings to post pone, no work piling up while I am away. With my Online Business, I can work from just about anywhere in the world, as long as there is Internet Service and telephone service....there just so happen to be free wifi at the campsite we stayed at.

  • This took me back to my childhood. My dad loves to go salmon fishing. Every summer we would go camping and fishing in NorCal. Sometimes, my dad would trade fresh salmon for abalone. It was always a special treat. We cooked it like you except we used a beer batter instead of panko.

  • @JerLikeStuff Flashback eh? There is no other food on the planet that tastes like fresh abalone I'll be heading back up in June, when the tides are right...and the annual tradition will continue.

  • @GregMcMahon101 Amen to that! It is delicious.

  • @JerLikeStuff so true my friend, so very true! Take care!

  • The proper way?????

Try bringing a pot to the boil. Once water is bubbling take off the heat and place Paua (Abalony??) alive with shell into boiling water for 2 mins. While waiting fill your sink with cold water. Once time is up take the Paua out and place into cold water. Then start shelling. This kills the Paua without shock trauma. When you shell them still alive they tense up and stay stiff. You will find the meat more relaxed and tender. Then you wont have to pound it with a tenderiser.

  • @KAHUNAGAN there are many variations of preparation however, the method I outline in my video always yields a delight to the taste buds! Happy Abalone'ing :) - Greg McMahon

  • @GregMcMahon101 Our abolone is not as big as yours but have been told ours have a stronger taste. But i tried your way of cooking them and my wife loved it as did i. We love eating them minced or sliced and cooked in cream and onions with other things (pepper and salt or sour cream was nice) I like them fresh and raw straight from the sea. Cant beat it. But wanted to try something different. I could not get over the size of your abolone. U are lucky.

  • @kern0099 absolutely mas delicioso! I've yet to find anything from the Sea that tastes like abalone. I'm very grateful that I get to go get some, fresh, every June.

  • Abalone is my favorite thing to eat from the sea, hands down deliciousness. Fried with Panko works best in a saute pan with Ghee. Use the Ghee and add garlic so you can get the pan super hot, like 375". (if you use regular butter it'll break from the heat, regular clarified butter will work if your careful though) and then fast fry it. Sooooo good!
