"It shows a "hay devil" in South Burlington. It's basically a dust devil, which can form in open areas during warm, sunny days. They get going when a pocket of air is heated by the sun. The hot air is less dense and rises. If the wind is just right, the rising hot air can start spinning, leading to a vortex that kind of looks like a tornado. Dust devils are usually pretty benign, but a few can get strong enough to cause a little damage.
This one in South Burlington is neat, because it picks up hay rather than dust. The kids playing in it are a riot. Watch the whole thing, the hay devil's strength waxes and wanes, and gets pretty intense toward the end, knocking one kid over.
