I actually if I recall yes they do and in the original text there was no love pairing between Albert and The Count. That pairing irritates me so!

@Selverbullet Yup. Like Albert, he really doesn't have much to do with the original story, though it is more than Albert. He hears the deal between Count and Luigi (the bandit), he and Albert are at the theatre, the execution, and lunch with Count.

Of the group of teens in this version, the original focuses more on Valentine and Max, due to Max's blood relation to his old sailing captain, M. Morrel, and Max's love of Val, who is also being poisoned by her greedy step mother.

@tyliong Excuse you? The book in a lot of ways is better than the anime. Though I love Gankutsuou sfm, I'll always hold the book over it. The illustration and techniques in this are A+, but it's almost complete disregard of the original story is appaling and lowers it to a C.

Book:

Albert and the Count hardly know each other.

Eugenie/Ablert doesn't happen.

Eugenie/girlfriend does happen.

Franz doesn't die.

Count doesn't die.

Fernand dies.

Count/Haydee happens.
