The lesson from this verse is: Yogastah Kuru Karmani - established in the field of Pure Consciousness perform action. That is the Real Freedom available to humans even in this world on this physical plane. It's your birth right - claim it.
Karma (Action) is part and parcel of the manifest world (wherever there's vibration/movement you have by definition Karma.
Chapter 2, verse 45 of the Bhagavad Gita provides the means for stepping out of the field of Action (to go beyond the play of the three gunas) and immerse one's mind into the field of Silence that is Transcendental to the field of Karma.
@dbca999 i dont think u have read enough about hindu philosphy, its true that karma means action (in some text) but is also a law on action, karma binds us to the cyckel of rebirth (samsara), for example in the Yoga teachings the yogi is trying to delete all karma (even good) to free themselves from samsara
Karma exists always here in the material world but there is no karma in the spiritual world with Lord Krishna and we r not in the spiritual world. Krishna says to become free from karma which means repeated birth and death one has to come back to Him. As long as we are here in this material world, thers no relief whatsoever, karma means the law of action and reaction. Acting for Krishna means bhakti yoga brings us into the karma free zone
The title is so misleading. In Hindu philosophy there is no freedom from Karma as mentioned in Geeta. Karma means Action, Karmy Yoga means Cause-and-Effect theory. Even not doing anything is a Karma. One cannot be free from Karma.
