I have to correct the title: Trinity Church is not, and was not a racist church. It is a controversial church. Some things that have been said there, occasionally, have been interpreted as racist by some. If you listen to the context, and are thoughtful, rational, and intelligent, you would never label this church as "racist."

That pastor said some awfull stuff, but that was not what he said every sunday for 35 years, He has done alot of good work over the years, he has helped many people. I just can't stop being amazed over how nonsecular the leaders and candidates for leadership have to be to be accepted in the US. The religious rhetoric that even the most moderate candidate here is using brings my thoughts more to countries like Iran, than it does to other secular countries of the west.

Ahhh, but he NEVER did leave the church. The man he prayed with, Otis Moss III, is the new pastor of the church, who preaches admoration of Jeremiah Wright, preaches on a "Gangsters Paradise" and is considered the preacher of "Hip-Hop" (a demonic spirt) which means "booty shaking". Otis Moss III is more rascist and heretical than Jeremiah Wright and yet this is the man that Obama "prayed" with to leave the building. They also believe in Islam at this church and have homosexual engagement nights!

billdemo: It is equally obvious that you know nothing about Trinity UCC or what is preached there, either. That congregation has garnered tremendous respect from many mainstream congregations and pastors around the country. And "liberation theology" is not a religion, but rather an approach to Christianity that has its roots in the Gospel as taught by Jesus Christ. The attempt to demonize or trivialize the church, and minimize the good work done over decades is shameful and unfortunate.

people hear 5-10 words and lazily decide that they sum up decades of ministry. The real point in this story has always been that the media did not do research or reportage, they just replayed a tiny clip. That Obama was equated with this church was a shame.

Journalism is a mess right now, and people need to start thinking again or say goodbye to democracy.
