A few words of caution regarding contemporary fairy tales ;)
Balloons + Bubbles seem to be everywhere these days... especially on Wall Street and the Main Stream News. Everything get's deflated now and then, including the hope for change.
Area 52 ... :)

  • Are you still assuming that there is such a thing as a "news cycle"? This "event" had television personalities as protagonists and an impossible scenario as storyline, and was pushed out by the AP in lieu of actual news.

  • BobForehead: I stand corrected: 'infotainment cycle/propaganda cycle' would be a more accurate description. Or simply put: Garbage. :)

  • 48 hours? And yet how many homeless people do you see on the news, homeless from the crash?

  • ScreamingTc: well, you'll see plenty of them during the 'holiday' season, rest assured. Our so-called national exercise in 'compassion for others' - almost as predictable the lack of coverage of the ongoing criminal acts on Wall Street, with the exception of the continued praise for the 'recovery' of a casino-style financial sector. In other words, simply invest more money, so that you TOO can have that private yacht someday, sailing into the sunset. And yes: people are swallowing it AGAIN.

  • The problem being is that the public's collective memory is so damned short, and their collective will power to do anything so damned diffused. Plus with the encouragement of the political sector both the left and right effectively neutralise the other when it comes to working together to deal with the bigger problems.

Sadly your up against decades of brainwashing that the US system is the best, and that capitalism is the only way for a country to function.

  • Complacity?

    You mean complicity.

  • No, haven't seen it - but, yeah it's a sad situation for those kids. Unfortunately there are many kids out there who are emotionally abused by their parents, and the state can't take care of them all - and the foster parent system isn't exactly the answer either.

  • i feel bad for all three of those kids

have you seen their music video called "pussified"?

i hate to see those kids go to the state, but it's looking more and more like the parents are insanely incapable.

  • Boomer1949: well, you have to root for the kid, no matter what happened, because he's only 6 ! He has nothing to do with any of this, including the manipulation.

  • owp: yeah, I think so, too. I just felt a bit sorry for the kid. He's only 6 years old. The father has already shown lots of propensity of wanting to be in the lime-light of the media, including prior 'reality' shows. Just goes to show, how fucked up our entire society is...when this crap is the top 'news' story in a 48 hour cycle. Meanwhile, of course, you won't see any little boys or girls interviewed on US tv, after the bombs hit their villages in Pakistan today.

  • I first heard about the balloon on the way home from work on the radio. I listen to 15 minutes of Hannity, just to see what insanity he is talking about and he was narrating a live feed as the balloon was descending to the ground. A caller who is a balloonist said the balloon couldn't hold a 50 lb child and I knew then it was a hoax. The "why" didn't come until later. But I too was rooting for the kid.
