this guy is what a 'shredder' should be, he's clearly abandoned all that sounding really technical crap that makes someone sound like a souless robot, its awesome to hear someone play with such ferocity
I too studied with Stan when I lived in Nashville from '95 to '96. I have countless hours of tapes from that time. He talks so fast at times, and gets so philosophical; but in the end his methods (such as the Art of Scribble) really helped me break out of my habits - and this was all after I had graduated from GIT. Stan is a true guitar and music master (and then some).
You are very priveledged to have a guitar teacher like Stan. If you faithfully practice what he teaches you, you will have a good map of the geography of the neck, good technique. Dare to use these concepts creatively in and out of everything you play. Play everything, everywhere, all the time. Tell Stan I said Hi - hope he had a great Christmas.
I sat in his kitchen and watched him do Bach fugues on an acoustic guitar with flat wound strings, blazing speed, in all chimes. My opinion is he is more accomplished a guitarist than John MacLaughlin.
I had the priveledge of studying guitar with Stan in the 80's. I'll never forget those experiences Stan! He is as incredible on acoustic as electric; every note perfect, nothing missed. But for 'freaknz1', it's not really about the speed itself, but freedom to improvise on the instrument; exploring the horizon of the instrument. And Dale, and Roy; a truly inspirational trio of musicians.
Once again, this guy was teaching me in 1993 and I was too young and stupid to understand the lessons. I understand them now...

Some of my favorite parts are where he goes into these clean, broad, beautiful inverted chords.
