i take a moment to talk about my likes and dislikes of the kit I also hop on the kit and do a short demo.

sorry for the poor audio quality, but i do think my cheap samsung mic (with headphones) lets you hear the kits potential.

  • Hey man. I'm pretty sure I met you at Sam Ash here in Vegas about a week ago. I was checking out the black beauty and asked you about the catalina club jazz. I'm actually thinking about buying this kit, when I saw this I remember you talking about the kick port. Thanks for the preview, I may just go and pick it up soon.

  • @CrlsDan92 hey whats up! and yes... I do remember you.. I think you actually work at Sam Ash too right? haha.. right on... yeah, the kickport really helps this little 18" bass drum sound deep and punchy. add an emad and kickport and you'll be sounding like a 22 with no problem unless you want the jazz sound. I gig all over town with this kit and I love how small and light it is... takes up no space on the stage. watch my other covers to hear it in action. see you around. -Roger

  • @ROGERPEREZ83 Yeah, well I use to work there last year. Yeah, I may get the kit that Greenbrier is offering, it has no drilled tom mount. I have seen you're covers, very impressive. Nice reference kit too. But yeah, watching you made it certain. I may just put on emperors and a power stroke 3 or a power stroke pro. I like me a stanton moore type of funk sound.

  • @CrlsDan92 right on and thank you, glad my videos could help.

  • @mpnewman1 not really sure what you are talking about.... other than the crappy audio quality of my camera, these drums sound great for rock music. don't believe me? watch my other videos where I used these drums live. I have an EMAD and a kickport on the bass drum and it sounds so punchy and defined. I've gotten plenty of comments on my drums sound especially for being so small. "Jazz Kit" is just a label to identify the shell sizes... not what music should and has to be played on it.

  • @mpnewman1 dude, your comment instantly shows me that you don't know nearly as much about drums and drumming as you think you do.

  • @TheHighPlainRoller no it wasn't hard at all.. what was hard was going back to the 24 because the rack tom was so hi on top of the 24. I love this 18" kick drum.. so small compact, punchy and i can put my rack tom however I want.. nice and low and it takes up like no space.

  • @ROGERPEREZ83 Right on bro! Did you find it hard to from a 24 to a 18? Like was the bass drum sliding a lot or anything

  • @TheHighPlainRoller the Tama Silverstars are really nice! especially since they have all birch shells! definitely a more modern sound out of the smaller kit size.. Just throw an EMAD on the kick batter and either a kick port or an EQ3 on the kick reso side and it will be a cannon!

  • Hellyeah, I'm thinking about getting this kit or the Tama Silverstar Jazz. My PDP 805s are way to big.

  • @ROGERPEREZ83 Yeah, once I've got my new cymbals (Zildjians and Paistes) I'll post a drum tour.

  • @teasdalea1 Sweet! You should post a video of the kit eh? As for the wear on the heads... if you are using the stock Gretsch heads that came with the kit, then yes.. I noticed wear and the white coating started to come off after about a week of playing... but it is expected with provided heads. Watch my short drum mic test with Remo Emperor clear over the stock heads and have a listen.. just some reverb and panning done.. no crazy effects. I think they sound excellent..
