Actually, to be picky you should pick the champagne flutes up and pour down the side of the glass, this helps preserve the bubbles of the champagne, it also controls the amount of froth so you get no overflow!

The only thing people should be doing with a bottle when opening it is holding it. This goes for wine and anything else, no twisting, pulling or any of that. You're removing the cork from the bottle, not removing the bottle from the cork.
