A gay Rutgers student named Tyler Clementi jumped from the George Washington Bridge in an act of suicide after his roommate secretly recorded him during a homosexual rendezvous and then distributed that file over the internet. Is this a hate crime or is this just college students being college students gone too far?

The simple fact of this case is that as a roommate you have no privacy, unless you are in the bathroom. If you want privacy, live as an individual, no roommate, no wife, no mom. Society cannot blame anyone for an individuals suicide. Suicide is self inflicted. The only thing this kid is guilty of is being a dick. What fucking idiot would post to face book that he was jumping off a bridge anyway. Anyone want a logical debate on this subject, bring it.

@JesaStar Thankyou..The actions of those miscreants still infuriates me,but not more than those who sees such invasions of privacy as no big deal.

@sleedolfine15 So very true! I know you made this comment 9 months ago, but I am grateful for your tolerant, educated response to this horrendous crime. As an anti-bullying advocate I am pleased with your genuine response. Thank you!!!

It's definitely not a hate crime, but that being said, this kid does deserve more than a simple slap on the wrist for what he did. It was extremely irresponsible, and it would do justice to seem him pay appropriately for his crime.

@melonbarmonster (1)We agree that suicide was an over-reaction. I would have taken the bastard's camera away from him and shoved it to where only his rectal region would be on film, but the brats were morally complicit in this boy's overreaction.(2)I've spent many years on university campuses and rape also happens there so I guess that's okay.(3)I think invasion of privacy is a big deal as does the D.A. who has charged that plus 14 other criminal counts which could give Ravi 10 years in prison.

@sleedolfine15 yeah they'll be convicted of invasion of privacy and that's it. You must be entirely ignorant to university life. Shit like this and much worse happens everyday in dorms all over the world without kids on receiving end committing suicide. THere's appropriate disciplinary or legal action to be taken but the fact that the gay kid committed suicide is not anyone else's fault. Suicide is tragedy but irrational, over-reaction and the kid obviously needed professional help.

@melonbarmonster I'm well aware of what is a suicide and I am not susgesting that they should be charged with murder, but that they ought to be convicted of a serious crime and I am fully convinced that will be. Maybe time spent in a cell contemplating the ruination of their own lives will awaken in them an understanding of what are privacy rights and why all of us are entitled to freedom from personal intrusions. These brats are not innocent lambs entitled to our sympathies.
