The Paternoster in E block before it was turned-off for safety reasons in 2007. Shot in .MOV format on Olympus Mju400.

  • What safety reasons? These things have run since over a hundred years ago.

  • The basic problem is that there is no applicable safety standard. They wanted to use the laws for Cranes to certificate this one, i.e. stretch in the chain, measured every 6 months. Actually, cracks were found in the frames of some carriages and no company was prepared to repair them (or even let their engineers in the shaft). Such a shame. Ericsson have now closed their offices in Beeston and the building is now empty.
