July, 1987, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - They say North Dakota has five seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall and Construction. During this particular construction season, I was struck by the large number of orange warning cones popping up throughout the city of Minot. That got the creative wheels in my mind turning, resulting in this light feature story. It turned out to be quite popular, generating buzz for several days. Each time people saw the construction cones, they thought of the orange cone creatures in my story. This piece earned first place honors at the annual state AP broadcast awards (although my wife and son continually give me grief and roll their eyes whenever I watch this story). I'm not sure on the exact day of the month this story ran. Transferred from 3/4 inch videotape via ADVC 300 and into iMovie HD. From Keith Darnay's personal video collection.
