NYCT Hybrid Orion-VII on the M-1 southbound on Broadway just north of Canal St. I think this bus stop is so cute - such a great concept for New York. A 150-foot long bus stop served exclusively by 40 foot buses.
Way to go NYCT: take up 15 parking spaces, put up pointless railings that actually make it MORE difficult to access the stop from the sidewalk, and put in HIGH curbs that are dangerous for the elderly who might wish to cross the street after alighting from the bus.....
Now don't get me wrong - BRT *might* be cool - and if this is "the way" to transition to it in NYC, then ok, fine, but NYCT has yet to release any plans to move beyond just a "study" in BRT as of the date of this video. 11:30 AM on 12/31/2007.
Happy New Year - From NYCT.
Why the hell did they build that high ass sidewalk, taking up street space? Couldn't they have just built it on the existing sidewalk? And what's with the little gap between the high sidewalk and the old sidewalk?

I see it as a very good thing. Fence needs to be taken off, and it should connect directly with sidewalk. Buses do not have the problem of merging back in with traffick. Means they can move much faster. No one illegally parked in bus stop.
