AND THEN THERE IS ALL THE DEAD WOOD LYING IN THE FOREST.
One evening in the late nineteen sixties Pieter Heijnen was watching TV when a sentence spoken by an older man caught his attention. The man had raised his finger to stress the importance of what he was saying and he looked straight at the camera. In German he said: "Und dann gibt es noch das tote Holz, das im Wald herumliegt". (And then there is all the dead wood lying in the forest.)
The profound depth of this piece of language was cherished for many years and now is the title and inspiration for his art installation by Pieter & Abby Heijnen in collaboration with Bill Brovold who composed the music.
It is displayed at the Barn Museum at Mohonk Mountain House, New Paltz, NY.
