My Response: G4 TV "AOTS" 420 Special, appropriate audience.

G4 TV's "Attack of the Show" ran a "420 special" last or the year before that was Kevin Pereira and Olivia Munn broadcasting from Amsterdam and it focused on the city, culture, and people.

Part of the show had an interview with a man at an institute (I forget what, too bad G4 asked me to take my videos of the shows down) who related how Amsterdam allowed marijuana, cocaine, and ectasy (X) to be possessed by regular citizens in the public.

The man then went on to explain that the public was educated about the harmful effects of the drugs, and it was decided that the individual citizen was left to choose whether they wish to use the substance or no.

Now, I do not mind G4 having programming centered on the subject of drug usage (in particular "weed") as I think the United States needs to rethink it's policy on the war on drugs since the prisons are over-crowded and billions of U.S. dollars are smuggled out of the country and going to countries like Colombia, Afghanistan, etc.

But by glamorizing the "drug culture," Attack of the Show can be seen as promoting it.

The audience of G4 is supposed to be males 18-34, and thus individuals smart enough to know what to choose and what not to do; however we know kids between the ages of 13-17 watch the show, and thus may not be fully aware of what they are witnessing, or think it is okay to use illegal drugs.

Loveline with Dr. Drew Pinski regularly has calls from teenagers under the age of 18 who have gotten into drugs, usually starting with marijuana, and how that has led to drug/chemical dependency, and ruined their lives.

I would hope that G4 TV, and Attack of the Show, would have a policy that for every instance of promoting drug use, they also have an instance of showing it's negative side effects or taking time to educate the audience about drug use and what it does to the brain and body.

(Yes! Adam De La Pena's "Code Monkeys" is going to have a show. I bet it'll be hilarious. And Tommy Chong!)

I'm under the age of 18 and smoke, but before I bought my first gram, I did about 2-4 weeks of research to educate my self. I think I know the benefits and draw backs. So if ya legalize it for people over 18, why not me too? I know the truth too. There should be a test to smoke weed about the truths and myths of marijuana, then you get a license that says you can smoke it if ya pass the test. Btw happy 4/20 everybody! Very late but still..

@foist101 There are no risks for weed man..you can't get cancer from it theres been 0 reports of death from weed, its been proven not to be a gateway drug, its not addictive. Thats why they use weed for people have cancer and tumors. There have also been studies on rats with human brain cancer after smoking weed 3 days later some of it went away leaving healthy cells. UNLIKE crack and heroine weed is not bad at all

Hmm I have to say that I agree more or less with this video. If people knew about the "truth" or marijuana than they would realize that it's not too big of a deal, is a lot safer than alcohol, etc.

That being said, I don't think "marketing" it to kids is necessarily the right thing to do either. But ultimately it comes down to the individual.. I think that with proper education on said topics (which we currently don't have...) people can and will make responsible choices.

Excellent vid, ya know I thought that way when i seen parts of last years special, the first one i thnk showcased a familarness to the 420 culture. the last ones kinda sadly misconstrued information being recieved by the general public about weed and harder drugs. such a foolish thing to do before possible future legislation

AOTS decision to do a 420 show in Amsterdam was stupid because they are a network dedicated to videogames and this whole show had almost nothing to do with videogames and they have become even less relevant to gamers since.

It was funny but was clearly dedicated to the frat boy set.
