Edward Fudge presented material from his book The Fire That Consumes.
While important, it should not be considered a matter of salvation. Come let us reason together.
further more recent clarification: "The message of final punishment is not the gospel. However, it is a shadow message that accompanies the gospel whenever the gospel light is obstructed by sinful unbelief. Hell is the consequence of rejecting God's undeserved mercy in Jesus Christ. It is the alternative to eternal life. Hell is not the most important doctrine of Scripture by any means, but it is certainly not unimportant." (Edward Fudge, The Fire That Consumes 3rd edition pg 377)
Recorded at Christian Gospel Temple in Cross Plains, Tennessee in August 2008 The links for this complete presentation are here: http://media.cgtchurch.net:8080/archive/guest/081608_Fudge1A1.wmv http://media.cgtchurch.net:8080/archive/guest/081608_Fudge_1B1.wmv http://media.cgtchurch.net:8080/archive/guest/081608_Fudge_1C1.wmv
The Fire that Consumes: a Biblical & Historical Study of the Doctrine of Final Punishment Popular tradition says that God will make the wicked immortal and then torment them forever. The Bible says the wicked will die, perish and be destroyed in hell, and never be seen again. If that is so, where did the popular doctrine come from and why is it held by so many? Does it really make any difference which view we hold? Edward is the author of the 500-page book The Fire that Consumes, recognized around the world as a standard reference on this subject. for more info go to: http://edwardfudge.com/written/fire.html or to: http://edwardfudge.com/speaking_topics.html

WHAT IS THIS OLD FART TALKING ABOUT WHAT A WASTE

And it's always best to begin at the correct starting point.
1) Man is not a TRICHOTOMY (body, soul, and spirit). Rather, man is a DICHOTOMY (body+spirit). When these two things are combined, man is a living soul (Gen.2:7). This is truly where the debate should begin.
Traditional orthodoxy says man is body+soul+spirit.
The Bible teaches clearly that man is body+spirit=soul (life; a living being).

@stokesterful part 2 Man in scripture is mortal or capable of death. God can bestow immortality to whom he wills. At Jesus' coming we are told the faithful will be transformed into his likeness "this mortal shall put on immortality." It never says this in regard to the wicked it says they perish.

@stokesterful I guess you are entitled to your own personal view. If you were to say scripture teaches your personal view you would have problems supporting such a conclusion. Eternal torment is based on man's Platonic philosophy of an immortal soul. "God alone has immortality."

I am so happy to see these uploaded. This subject should be of the utmost concern to Christians considering the atrocities of what they ACTUALLY believe.Men's traditions often make the word of God invalid and hell is the most abominable of lies.God bless Ed Fudge for caring.
