East Coast noise-rock shit-starting myths Lightning Bolt pulverized a crowd into submission with a vengeance at the Cellar Door on Thursday, April. 14th and Arroz y Frijoles was there. After the show, we managed to sit down with Brian Chippendale where we discussed jazz crushes, meeting Steve Albini for the first time, the live show, memories of their legendary and now defunct rehearsal space Fort Thunder (which became a mecca for extreme art and music for Providence in its existence), and the goals (or lack thereof) for Lightning Bolt. Enjoy. Arroz y Frijoles por vida.

  • You did a good job of capturing Chippendale's normal cool guy dudeness but you kind of do this thing where you will talk about something about the artist (for example talking about the live performance and the mask and the way they play) and then you go off onto something sort of un-related. Try to focus a bit and take every questions slow. Never interrupt the person you are interviewing because they may say something interesting. (part 1)

  • @scottsandersbooking Yeah, I understand. I'll be completely honest as to why that is. My buddy who shot this is also in the opening act met them beforehand and cleared this interview, but I was beyond nervous about it (because it was fucking Brian Chippendale, y'know?!) and so I guzzled an Arrogant Bastard. That kind of explains my uh...sloppiness.

  • @scottsandersbooking All that said (rimshot, please), I'm satisfied, because he was cordial and friendly and funny and responsive. It's raw as fuck. and it's kind of a mess..but we like it that way. Thanks for watching.

  • @shandelear I disagree, I'd love to see more interviews. He always seems happy to do them too.
