Could somebody please explain to me how this is racist? When I first heard it I thought it was about the show made of Bengali Tigers in zoos/ circuses etc. The conventional wisdom is entirely different but I still don't see how it's racist?

I am a 44 yr old african american who has been listening to Smiths/Morrissey/Steven(his first name same as mine) since 1985 and will till I leave this earth. My wife kept sayin why u always listen to that gay guy?!!! Needless to say she is my EXXXXXX!!! Go Morrissey!!

@RideMyF150 Youre completely fucked in the head if you think Morrissey is a racist. In his song America Is Not the World he complains about the U.S not having a president who is not black, female or gay. This was before Obama got into office. Hell, Morrissey is either gay or bi himself so no, he's not a basher regarding race or otherwise.

Morrisey writes songs about esoteric subjects others don't touch on. The assumption that he is racist just because the song has lines that racists will gravitate to is simplistic and imho false. It reminds me about the flack that carole king gets for writing "it felt like a kiss" You have to look beyond the obvious and use the mind you are blessed with to fuly appreciate any work of art, be it a song, a poem, a novel, a painting etc.
