SYNOPSIS: The Quest to discover Australia's outback Sea Monsters - an adventure, 100 million years in the making.

This documentary takes us into the extraordinary world of 3 of Australia's most prolific outback fossil hunters - the legendary Dinosaur Dick Suter (Boulia, Qld) and gifted husband and wife team, Tom and Sharon Hurley (Andamooka, SA). Call them outback fossil hunters or fossil collectors or amateur dinosaur hunters, they are the modern day Indiana Jones's of the Australian outback. Their obsession with fossils leads Tom and Sharon half way across the country to the dinosaur fields of outback Queensland, near the small community of Boulia, where they team up with Dinosaur Dick, curator of the acclaimed Boulia Marine Reptile Fossil Museum. Set in the most astonishing Queensland and South Australian outback environments, the film documents their adventures and awesome 100 million year old outback sea monster discoveries. On their journey they share their stories, secrets, knowledge and lifelong fascination with fossils and the Australian outback.

  • Do you have to get special permission to collect fossils of vertabrates in your Country ? The laws are getting very strict in the USA .

  • hello fellow fossil buff

In Oz,each state has regulations. The fossils on the trailer are collected in close association with a state museum. Most sites in the country are protected by national parks, conservation parks or fossil reserves. Legislation protects most things and on many levels. Federal & state laws and access to land. It never was easy to collect in Australia and each year gets more complicated. Good luck and we will look up your site. Tom & Sharon Hurley (FSP central characters)

  • I have 50 + fossil videos of field trips , lectures , and classes .Look up "Cincinnati fossils " to see them . Most are Ordovician but a few lectures on other later fossils .

  • Great job Kim! The shots came together really well! All the best.
