The March4Freedom rally took place on September 13, 2009, two days after the Ethiopian New Year, under a warm, blue sky, and with the United States Capitol, the compelling symbol of democracy and rule of law, as its backdrop.
Ethiopians honored Birtukan Mideksa, a true heroine of Ethiopia, who is currently in jail for political reasons by gangsters ruling Ethiopia.
Ethiopian Americans gave to Mideksa, a plaque in honor of her exceptional sacrifice for the people of Ethiopia, given on the frontlines of our battle against tyranny in Ethiopia and for her exemplary strength and moral courage in unselfishly standing up for truth, justice, freedom, human rights and the rule of law; choosing imprisonment, with long periods of solitary confinement, rather than compromising your values and convictions, modeling what is required of us to build a free, healthy, and well-functioning society. Ethiopian Americans deeply thank leader Birtukan for her significant contribution to there future.
The well-respected African American leader, Gerald LeMelle, the executive director of Africa Action, a renowned social justice organization that has been fighting for the African for over fifty-six years presented the plaque to a young girl who promised to continue Birtukans struggle
Thanks...!
