KEAN:
Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf's position looks ever more isolated. The country's newly elected prime minister orded the immediate release of judges Mr. Musharraf detained last year.
STORY:
[Dr. Fehmida Mirza, National Assembly Speaker]:
"So, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani is declared the member who has come out with the confidence of the majority of the members of the National Assembly."
Yousaf Raza Gilani receives his blessing from the Pakistan Parliament. His Pakistan People's Party has a hefty majority since forming a coalition with another regional party after last month's elections. Gilani immediately announced the release of the judges detained by president Pervez Musharraf in November.
[Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Prime Minister-Elect]:
"I order the immediate release of judges of the top judiciary."
Chaos ensued outside the house of the deposed chief justice, where people helped the police take down the barbed wire.
The political fighting between the president and the judiciary seems to have turned decisively against Musharraf, who is looking increasingly isolated.
"Hang Musharraf" is the chant for these Islamist Party supporters.
The outcome might not be quite so extreme - but the speculation in Pakistan is that he might have to go - and soon.
Since the day Pakistan came into being justice is just a dream for a common man. A judge is not allowed to officiate in any specific city court for more than a few months. Similarly a police officer officiating at district level like SSP is not allowed to work for a month or 2 at the seat and these actions encourage outlaws as well as violation of law here. The officiating govt is not interested in implementing the law. It's just desirous of its corruption to be unexposed in this way.
