Make sure the gas cap is screwed all the way tight, and check to make sure all of your rubber boots for the intake/air filter box are all the way tight. I had the same problem, but it ended up being vacuum leaks.

@simonriddick have you tried looking at the distributor? maybe its just missing the misfiring cylinder

My Camaro 3.8 sounds just like this, same exhaust it sounds like as well. I have been battling misfire mysteries since I bought the vehicle. It idles rough and inconsistently. Also I will be at 70MPH on cruise control and it will randomly just get way way out of timing it seems and just misfire like crazy.... Has stopped the engine at 70MPH before as well.. Yay!!!! Thank ya jesus!!!! Thank ya jesus!!! ugh!

I have a miss fire about 10-15 seconds after startup. After that it becomes normal. Not sure what is causing it. My plugs and wires are still pretty much new. What was the cause of your problem?.

@simonriddick I basically had to replace my ignition system (plugs, wires, and coils). Did you check the ignition coils?
