"Song of Love, Song of Death" by Charles-Valentin Alkan, played by Ronald Smith. Unlike Chopin, the names of Alkan's etudes were given by the composer himself. It's a beautiful, Schubert-eqsue piece of music with a radical-for-the-time ending. I wish he recorded all twelve etudes from Op. 35, but at least he's done the last three, and also the slightly notorious No. 5, "Allegro Barbaro." Hope you enjoy!
that finale ravages the whole piece!!

@MusDisa95 Because the ending deals, our character dies!

So beautiful! And it doesn't get boring or hard to follow. I'm going to listen to it a lot more now.

@WinsomeAllegretto Have you heard Mark Viner's recording? It's my favorite.

Exquisite music, beautilfully played! Why isn't Alkan known and performed more? The unexpected ending takes one quite by surprise.

@amanderj I agree. This is a very nice work indeed, with a surprising ending (but it goes along perfectly with the title of the piece).
