In 1611 -- 1632 Sweden was ruled by King Gustavus Adolphus, whose military reforms transformed the Swedish army from a peasant militia into an efficient fighting machine, possibly the best one in Europe. The conquest of Livonia was now completed, and some territories were taken from internally divided Russia in the Treaty of Stolbova. In 1630, the Swedish (and Finnish) armies marched into Central Europe, as Sweden had decided to take part in the great struggle between Protestant and Catholic forces in Germany, known as the Thirty Years' War. The Finnish light cavalry, known as the Hakkapeliitat, spread fear among the Catholic troops in Germany.

  • finnish hakkapelita swedish army elite soldiers!!

  • @timppala I dont understand how finns disqus. Svear, goter, Götar, finns, karelians and tavastians built the country Sweden together side by side. There was no Finland or Sweden before, we built it together. Ofcourse finns aswell as swedes fought the wars. And no, there had not been a strong Sweden without finns, and there had not been a strong eastern Sweden without strong sweds

  • Gustav II Adolf body wasnt stolen, it was found trampled under a pile of bodies after the battle by a swedish troop.

his elk-hide armor was looted from his corpse by some catholic germans though, and later returned to Sweden.

  • @wepper5 "therefor, you cant say it's part of the "finnish" history as a country.. It's a part of the finnish peoples history but not as the country "finland"."

Well of course. This is what I´ve been trying to tell all along! Nobody here has claimed this was Finnish history on a "country" level, Hakkapelites are history of the Finnish people. I respect Swedish history. We were part of it for 600 years. But we also have our own history within your history. Why can´t you allow us that?

  • @torhjelm as finns has swedish history, you gotta admit it, finns have swedish history. If you wouldve been born 200 years earlier, you wouldve been Swedish, living in the part of sweden called finland, that's the way it is.

  • @torhjelm or excuse me i made that one wrong, ofc finns were finns as stockholmare in sweden are stockholmare but they're swedish, as finns then were swedish, finland which that part of sweden was called wasnt made to a country until later, therefor, you cant say it's part of the "finnish" history as a country.. It's a part of the finnish peoples history but not as the country "finland". "skåne" in sweden was made sweden 1656, before that it was danish. nd swe ppl in ther has dnish history.

  • lol, ofcourse Vikings weren't part of the Swedish history, Sweden didn't excist by then, allthough.. it's huge differences between a country's history and a history about the men living in that country.

lol, do u realize what ur saying? ur basicl saying that the parts russia took from finl during winterwar werent finnish before they took it, but they've always been russian. I mean ofcourse they were finnish before russian took em..

finns werent finns before suomi was made, they were swedish.

  • @wepper5 Who gives a rat´s ass what kind of societal structure employed them, fact is these soldiers were and always will be Finnish.

If we follow your logic, Swedes don´t have viking history at all. Varangian guard is Greek history and Gardarike is Russian history, so there.

  • @wepper5 The name Hakkapeliitta was not invented later, it derives from their war cry Hakkaa päälle, as everybody knows. A 17th century German prayer book

refers to them as haccapaelitorum, so it´s a proven fact they were known as Hakkapelites already back then.
