this is directed by Kawanami Masaaki-san who seems to be one of the 'better' UY visionaries..at least compared to the criminal half of staffers. previously did a very nice ep of Tenchans mother, tho he did do one disturbing ep with the Hitler references & the idiot nausicaa endin which was utterly disastrous..im sure he got slapped on the wrist for it. drawings of Cherry here have religious impact as hes supposed to be a monk comically drawn like Buddha, or at least the 'ojizo' stone statues.
