Councilmember Roger Bush sponsored an ordinance to "tighten up" the laws on illegal signage in Pierce County.
It didn't work -- the undisputable truth can be seen when driving almost any semi-main street in unincorporated Pierce County.
The most prolific offenders are those whom work in the development and real-estate industries.
Councilmember Bush also sponsored the Illegal Sign Removal Pilot Program. The results were the removal of 3,600 illegal signs from 55 sq miles of roads in unincorporated Pierce County.
The pilot program cost 40,000 tax-payers dollars.
Councilmember Bush also sponsored the formation of an adhoc committee, as requested by the development industry's request for "special consideration" in allowing them to continue blighting Pierce County roads with their oceans of illegal signs.
The adhoc committee cost another 5,000 tax-payer dollars.
The County decided to not charge the offenders with the allowable $250 per day/per infraction fine.
Had they, the County could have yielded a potential $900,000.00.
Why didn't they do this?
We don't know because no one would answer the question.
If you would like to know the answer, please ask your councilmember. If you are lucky enough to get an answer, please let us know by emailing us at lifeinpiercecounty@gmail.com.

Although in this video Councilmember Roger Bush is "tough on signs", he has since sponsored R2008-41 which, if approved, would give special allowance for the housing development industry to post up to 6 off-premise signs per subdivision. This special allowance would not apply to any other for-profit industry, therefore would violate the 1st Amendment rights of all other industries. Despite forewarning of lawsuits (google Ballen v. City of Redmond), the Council has not tabled R2008-41.
