I start them March 15 to harvest June and July and fall crop August 15 to get some small ones in December.
They resist frost very well like kale.
Don't bother trying to winter them over because they just go to seed in the spring and don't produce anything worth eating the 2nd year. If you don't mind a little salt it will make them even tastier.
I'm between seasons right now and wish I had one right now but I just chowed on a few tomatoes+figs.

thanks for the video. I just learned about this vegetable last night. I live in San Antonio, and it's on the calendar to sow Sept. 10.

You are welcome, my Youtube friend. They are easy to grow and being that the bulb is above ground level I haven't had any problem with root magots like with radishes and some beets. They are kind of ornamental looking too, so even if you don't have a regular veggi garden, I'd put some between the flowers in the front yard. The more years I grow them, I'm starting to call them "Annual Veggie Apples" .
They're great raw. Please see more of my videos by clicking on my name. Enjoy.

I've cooked them and put heathier buttery flavored Smart Ballance on them but cold and raw straight out of the morning garden or frig is my favorite. Please see all my videos by clicking on my name. Enjoy :-)

Thank you very much. It seems you need some serious succession planting on this one...I might just try to grow a few and see how I like them.

Kohlrabi is the closest vegteble to a fruit that you can pick and eat straight out of the garden and is sweet, all you need is a pocket knife. If it's small you can bight them in half and eat them out of the skin, like I do a kiwi. I'd rather let them get as big as possible to late June just before they start drying out and getting toughened in order to get the most sweet crunchi white per plant.
Snap peas fall into that class too Please see all my videos by clicking on my name.

Now when you cut it off the base, do you have to replant a new seed or will it grow again from the part that was cut off?

@ILuvCaroline
Once you cut the bulb off, you have to start a new plant.
I wish they grew a whole new bulb and stalk and leaves from just the remaining root.
They have to plant engineer that one.
