Dr Suzanne Billiar back in 1992 was ready if this young female giraffe had difficulty calfing as this was her first time. The male is a very large male. Note the teamwork of the keepers that it took to deliver this giraffe after getting her into a holding stalks for safety. Seeing only one foot out is a BAD sign! When she laid down Dr Sue was able to palpate & determine the other foot was caugt behind the pelvis. Once she was secure in the stalks we were able to repell the foot out back inside her & reposition the calf to be able to get both legs at once. Then since she was exhaused it took us all to help her deliver a healthy beautiful male baby giraffe!
