Joseph Rudyard Kipling has been called brilliant others say brilliantly racist. But his creative genius are not in question. Jimmy Spice Curry, Hotep, and the GigaGroove team (A. Stein, etc) are pleased to release an ethnically diverse video featuring Kipling's poem: "If".

Some have argued that we can't ignore his rather racist "White Man's Burden" nor his close ties with the very racist South African regimes, and Cecil Rhodes himself. Others argue that Kipling was pandering to his clients who tended to be rich white persons. Either way, here we are with what I would call, one of the greatest poems ever, and yet, with mixed emotions I wonder: "Should society judge a person by all their works (creative, political, social) or do we allow their greatness in one area outshine their negatives? For now, this poem seems to cut through all issues and deal with the challenge of surviving but ironically, if Black South Africans and poorer Indians were to quote Kipling this very poem, would he consider them worthy of the inspiration supposedly inherent in the poem "If"?

Rudyard Kipling was born on Dec 30, 1865 and died on January 18, 1936. He was born in Bombay, India. Kipling was a short-story writer, novelist and poet who promoted British imperialism, although extremely eloquently. Kipling received the 1907 Nobel Prize for Literature. Best-known for his works The Jungle Book (Rikki-Tikki-Tavi), Kim, "The Man Who Would Be King", Gunga Din, The White Man's Burden and If.
