    In 1914, four months after WWI began. In the most famous case, around Ypres, the Germans sent out an envoy to the British and they made an unofficial truce and each side collected their dead. Then the Germans started singing Stille Nacht and the British O Come All Ye Faithful then a football was kicked out of the British lines and they had a kick about. I'm not sure how long it lasted but it was certainly more than 2 days. Such a wonderful thing... sadly after that the war got far nastier.
