Original Text:
SAN FRANCISCO, May 20 -- Physicians gathering for the American Psychiatric Association annual meeting here were greeted with a noisy street protest by the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), an offshoot of the Church of Scientology.
From its earliest days in the 1950s, Scientologists have waged a campaign accusing the psychiatric profession of a range of abuses. Now conducted under the CCHR's banner, the campaign currently portrays psychiatry as an "industry of death."
Demonstrations like the one at this year's meeting have become a fixture at the annual gatherings.
In this exclusive MedPage Today video report, APA President Nada Stotland, M.D., explains what it's like for a medical society that has, as she put it, its own dedicated hate group -- the impact on practicing psychiatrists, and how the group has responded.
@scottyb453 LOL! What a noob you are (or do you not know what that means either). When some one says "cool story bro" it means that your post is to long and boring for me to read all of it.

@MetalBru01 I don't really know what this means but everything i said was true. I will be more than happy to debate you on anything you feel is of questionable validity. If you agree with me then it is "Cool" to fully understand how corrupt psychiatry is.

Talk to any guy or gal who was forced to take ritalin as a child. Mention the word torture and most will tell you that is what it felt like to be on ritalin. hyperactivity is part and parcel of being a healthy child. when children become disruptive or destructive they need discipline. And when they behave you reward them. Many find behavior or classical conditioning means we are only machines. no, because we are aware of it. forced drug social control is unconstitutional and inhumane.

Others who are not libertarian or have any philosophy but humanity to give include, Dr.Peter Breggin md, David Cohen PhD, Robert Whitaker("mad in america" great book), Gary Null, etc. Good patient rights orgs include mindfreedom

Scientology is not my cup of tea. But the fact is libertarian psychiatrist started cchr. scientology helps fund it. all besides the point. fact is the prevailing rx psychiatry via neuroleptics(e.g.abilify, olanzazpine--new is not improved-- or the older haldol, thorazine et al) forced into those labled crazy, tortures, lifespans, and kills suddenly tens of thousands in US alone every year. at best 2% of all violence is committed by "nuts". furthermore no causal link. normal is scarry

And don't tell me there's also Talk Therapy in Psychiatry, this has been deprecated, at least in the USA, in favour of the new "psychobiology paradigm". This is of course not the case if talking about Psychology.

The fact that in the brain you can observe some neurotransmitters "playing up" while someone is depressed is an effect not a cause; for instance if you are depressed cause you are unemployed, taking a pill to put back to normal some neuroransmitters is like cheating, it masks the real cause. But you know for the modern medicine and the psychiatry there's no soul, there's no mind, there's only body, brain and matter, and you have to take pills to make Big Pharma even more rich.

There are other groups against Psychiatry, aside from that what does it mean "psychiatric illness" or like? Define that please!
All diseases can be physical or mental, or psychosomatic (Diseases in the body caused by the mind). So what she's talking about?
If for treatment you mean taking pills for years masking the real cause of your problems, this is just cheating. To treat or to cure doesn't mean to heal.
Psychiatry is not responsabile for the holocaust? Tell me about Ernst Rüdin then.

@Cybernerd9000 But no, that would be in a perfect world where psychiatry and science discovered everything and know everything.
But we don't know everything.
